Mostly cloudy skies with some small partial sun breaks. Mild temperatures with light to moderate SW winds along the upper ridges and peak.
Snowpack
We went to Maggies Peak South to make observations today. Light rain occurred on the drive to the trailhead and back, but very little fell while we were out in the field. Wet surface snow existed from the parking area to the top of the peak at 8699'. This wet snow existed on top of a melt-freeze crust on solar aspects and colder dryer snow on northerly aspects. Some natural roller balls were observed throughout this area from previous days. While down skiing today, widespread small roller balls occurred in steeper terrain. These remained small in size and did not entrain enough snow for a wet loose avalanche to occur. Snow surfaces were sticky from the top down with deeper wet snow at lower elevations with poorer travel conditions.
