We rode snowmobiles today in the Blue Lakes zone. The goal of the group was to manage terrain and avoid avalanche terrain. We led our group to several locations that gave us good views of challenging and complex terrain with recent avalanche activity. We were lucky enough to observe some natural avalanches that have happen during this past storm cycle. We saw several natural and human triggered avalanches from the past 48 hours and majority of them were on N and NE aspects. Signs of settlement and cracking were observed along wind drifts that followed the river in Faith Meadow. The snow was very upside down, supportable under the snowmobile so long as you did not sink the track however when you tried to walk, boot pen was easily around 45cm or more. The weather seemed slightly warmer than predicted and the wind remained light with scattered clouds throughout the day.
