Copper

Based on very limited obs, we did not see anything concerning with the current conditions. Still very much in assessment mindset, but with more obs like we saw today, would likely feel comfortable entering steeper terrain. Lots could happen before it snows, but the surfaces are very weak.

Below 7500', an impenetrable rain crust exists below 25cm of softer snow and near surface facets. You can't punch a pole grip through it until over 7500'. This is essentially the new ground at lower elevations. Above 7500', the rain crust quickly softens and then disappears. 

We dug a quick snowpit at 8500', NW. HS 130. No obvious weak layers, older facets near the ground were strong and moist. Snowpack below 30cm was 1F to 1F+ to the ground. Granted this was one location, but overall it was an extremely good-looking snowpack. Except for the near surface faceting...

Despite some sunshine and warmer temps, low angle solar slopes stayed cold and dry.

Ski conditions were quite good with a 100-130cm strong base up high and the supportable rain crust down below, capped with near surface facets top to bottom.
