My partner and I headed up westbound to where Highway 2 closed and skinned a bit further up past the parking lot before we headed up the north side of the valley Towards Delancy Benchmark. As we headed up, we noticed some surface cracks on steeper terrain, and about 1000 feet up, (see photo), When I jumped a few times on a small rollover, we heard a very large woomf. This thoroughly spooked my partner and I, and we decided to bail, but we ended up hitting some epic pow on the way down. We opted not to dig a snow pit because we had already seen enough signs of instability and just wanted to get back to the car; I think the overall stability of the snow would have been great on the mellower terrain, and what we were on was just a bit too steep.
