Snowpack

Conditions along ridge were sun crusty, wind-blown. NE trees skied well! Almost no crust on NE aspect down to ~1650m. Sun crust everywhere else up to our pit site at ~2140m. We dug a pit and did an ECT on a low angle slope (<30 deg) mid-way up the ridge on the NE side. Some wind depositing going on at pit location. First failure: ECTN25, resistant planar ~25cm down, no propagation. Second and most prominent failure: ECTP26, sudden planar 55cm down, propagated full length of column and fell to our feet. Third failure: we were seeing what would happen down deeper by givin it heck for fun with the top block removed: ECTN30++ ~80cm down, two separate layers at this depth broke, resistant and not very planar, no propagation. Didn’t bring a loupe to check crystal type.
