Quick Observation
Decent to good ski conditions at Healy Pass today, with a few groups out and about. Overall the snowpack was shallower and weaker than I expected (around 70 to 90 cm at treeline) and unsupportive facets were encountered while skiing up and down. Over a few hours of trail breaking, whumphing was encountered only a few times though all on the immediate Lee of the monarch ramparts at approximately 2350 m on the north/northeast aspect. A couple of slab avalanches up to size 2 could be seen on steep alpine E/NE slopes of scarab peak. It was tough to tell but they appeared to be fairly recent as the crowns were fresh and ridgetop wind effect was evident everywhere. There's still lots of good skiing to be had out there if you like meadow skipping.
