Quick report
We focused on assessing new snow stability. Scattered to broken cloud cover for the day with light winds and cool temperatures. Periods of direct sun caused small dry and wet loose activity quickly on steep southerlies (SE-S) across all elevations. We departed the mountains around 14:00 as cloud cover remained over GTNP. 24 hour snow totals of 3-6" in the middle to upper elevation. Minimal wind affect within new snow seen in our travels. Wind slabs are likely limited to isolated terrain in the upper elevation alpine formed from shifting W to NW wind. The crust formed Monday 2/24 was supportable to the valley bottom. Numerous other parties reported similiar conditions. S2 snowfall was reported in the early morning hours in Garnet Canyon.
A full wet loose shed cycle did not occur today. Clear skies and warmer temps are expected tomorrow and will likely cause a more widespread wet loose cycle and destabilizing old wind slabs on solar aspects.
