Quick report
We skied southwest, west and northeast aspects between 8 and 10k feet with no notable instability observed.
4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) of new snow had fallen by the time we left the pass around 3:30. In exposed areas, wind was transporting snow and building soft drifts on lee aspects. Very localized cracking in new drifts, but no movement. There was no wind effect in sheltered and protected areas, which made for some great ski quality. Buried obstacles are slowly getting fewer and further between.
As the storm stacks up this weekend, it will be important to monitor the wind and its effects in exposed areas. There may be a lull in snow tonight before things pick up again tomorrow, but westerly winds will continue to move snow. Watch for cracking and drifting along ridges. The few inches of new snow moved easily in steeper areas - watch for sluffing and loose snow over the weekend in steep, sheltered areas as storm depths increase.
