Quick report
This observation highlights recent cornice falls that have occured during or after the last storm cycle. Cornices have reached the threshold of where they are failing more easily. Rapidly warming temperatures and strong solar influence today will destabilize cornices. Large cornice falls likely triggered these very large persistent slab avalanches. These photos and events were reported from the Westside of the Tetons, Salt River Range, and Snake River Range.

Large D2.5 (possibly D3) persistent slab avalanche observed on an unnamed peak SW of the headwaters of Lake Canyon in the Snake River Range (NW of Sheep Creek Peak). Appeared to fail on the same persistent weak layer (1/4) as the large D3.5 on Palisade Peak potentially at the same time. Likely triggered by a cornice fall. Viewed from a distance so hard to know exact characteristics.
