Experienced light winds out of the NW with a high temp above 9,000ft of 25 (F), temperatures were much warmer below 8,000ft. Skies varied between broken, overcast, and obscured. There was a brief period of light snow this morning, no measurable accumulation.
Snowpack
The average height of snow on top of Chicken Knob was around 265 cms. The surface was characterized by 30-35 cms of soft (fist-hardness) snow from recent precipitation. Three melt-freeze crusts were present in the top 75 cms of the snowpack. While no signs of instability were observed, the structure is poor and may begin to produce avalanches once the snow on the surface consolidates into a slab. There was some recent dry loose activity in steep, rocky areas. No signs of wind slab or wind-transported snow were observed.
