I found well-developed surface hoar crystals buried under 1.5" of new snow, especially at lower elevations and in sheltered areas.

I'm very impressed by the size of many of the avalanches from last week's historic avalanche cycle, and I'd certainly have add the avalanche in South Wood Camp to the list.... Lots of big timber uprooted and swept down the path. Among deep, rock-hard piles and hedgerows of dirty, goblin-sized ice balls in the toe of avalanche is a jack-straw'ed pile of 70' trees

Snowpack

I found good powder conditions in places that didn't avalanche, and not too bad traveling conditions higher up in the smoothed-in avalanche paths.  Travel was nearly impossible In some of the lower reaches of the debris from the huge avalanches on January 11.
