Quick report
Toured up to the Lake Mary trees to take a look at snowpack structure and reactivity after the recent storm. We did not observe any cracking or collapsing during our ascent up the 28-30 degree, north/northeast-facing slope. We dug a quick pit down to ground level mid-slope at 9,150 ft, and found fist-hard, wind-packed precipitation particles from 20 cm to 205 cm. Hardness was relatively consistent throughout. From 0 cm to 20 cm, we found faceted snow that we believed was rained on early in the storm. We did not perform any snowpit tests. Ski penetration was around 15-20 cm as we traveled through the trees, while boot penetration was around knee-to-hip deep when we stepped off our skis. We also spotted what looked like an avalanche on Jaws, but it was too shady to be able to tell for sure.
