Snowpack
Dug a snow pit about 2 meters deep, on a slope with an ENE aspect and 19° inclination. Found relatively fresh snow from the recent storm at top, with a noticeable density change from 4-finger hardness to fist hardness about 70 cm deep. Then a knife-hard rain crust 110 cm deep, and a fist-hard persistent weak layer 132 cm deep with 2 mm long facets. Performed a deep tap test targeting the persistent weak layer; observed sudden collapse after 20 taps. Failure line was 126 cm deep.
