About 150-200 feet from the summit ridge of Hurd Peak on the north face my partner and I dig two hasty pits 50 ft apart and got Q1 planar shears about 30 cm deep. At the breaking point was a layer of facets beneath. We didn’t take any pictures of our results as we were exposed and transitioned as fast as possible to reach a safer area. We did not get these results at the base of the peak. Over all coverage of new snow on the north face varied from 5cm to >30cm.
