- <p>Lots of cracking through the new snow on the skin up, although none of the cracks propagated nor did anything move either heading up or going down. Some settling in addition to the cracking. There is 3" of wet saturated snow below the new snow that I'm pretty sure is from rain that fell the night of 12/18 before the rain turned to snow. This layer froze the night of 12/19 and seems to be acting as a bridge -- for now.</p> <p>A few hundred feet below the ridge, this frozen layer was much harder (knife) and thicker -- seemed more like a wind crust. It's still sitting atop rotten facets that had no cohesion. Variable layering on and just below the ridge.</p>
Map location is approximate because I can't zoom the map in to mark the google pin more precisely. The photo is of the pit after the ECT column collapsed into the bottom part. Pole is all the way into the ground. Shallow snow pack mean lots of stuff is still sticking up through the snow.
