Quick report
Started from the Manitoba parking lot at 11am. 34°, blue sky poking through, light breeze, occasional light flurries. The weather really picked up throughout the day, with flat light, the occasional terrible gusts that kept switching up which direction they were coming from, and occasional whiteout conditions. Alders are pretty knocked down. Snow conditions were surprisingly excellent for skiing, a little mashed potato-y down low, but perfect above 2,000 ft elevation. Ski penetration at least mid-calf, and our dog was swimming in the snow. Some impressive older rollerballs in the meadow. We did not see any avalanche activity, whumphing, or shooting cracks. We noted the early stages of wind slabbing on our second lap. We kept it pretty conservative and turned around at 2,500 ft elevation (trees above the meadow). Back at the parking lot by 2:30pm. We dug a pit at 1,840 ft ft elevation, on 17° incline (see photo). Snow pack was 120cm deep and ground was not frozen. Finger hardness all the way down until pencil hardness against the ground. CT 19 in the top layer of storm snow, CT 29 in the layer 27cm down from the top (looked like a rain crust but was not actually frozen!).
