Sixmile

Get it while you can. We returned to Swan Lake to see how last weekend's storm snow was holding up.. and possibly to say goodbye.

• We found 1 to 3 feet of mostly unconsolidated snow on top of the 1/31 interface.
• In all pits we found a hard (1F) slab just above this layer.
• We got non-propagating results in most pits and mixed results in a pit at 6600' on an E aspect. 
• An obvious freezing rain crust from early Janurary was found 3+ feet deep. 
• The snow surface was capped by a thin rime crust.
• We saw signs of lighty wind-affected snow but did not encounter any surface slabs. 
• The snow surface was moist below 5000' as we descended.

 The weak snow from January was stronger than advertised.  We still spaced ourselves out when traveling through terrain traps under steep slopes.

• ECTN 26 down 65 cm on 1/31 facets

@ 6000 N

• HS = 290 cm
• ECTN 19 down 35 cm
• ECTN 22 down 65 cm
• 1/8 crust down 110 cm

@  6600  E

• HS = 190 cm
• ECTN 15 x 2 down 30cm
• ECTN 25, ECTP 25 down 50cm
• 1/8 crust down 90 cm
