We toured South East off the 108 heading up to a max elevation of 2930m to get some early season data on the PWL that's presently prevalent within the BWRA. The 1st Red flag of "strong winds with blowing & drifting snow" was immediately visable above treeline from the road. On our ascent, terrain choice was key to remain on the very thin snow pack and avoiding rocks & debris. As we started to crest the treeline, wind buff was easily visable as strong clues to the potential of newly formed wind slabs on sheltered faces, along with this, shooting cracks were appearing around our skis. We dug a pit at 2925m on the leeward side (NE) of the hill to evaluate the stability of the PSW with this freshly transported wind blown snow. Stability results • CTE4 @110cm SP • CTM13 @20cm SC • PST 55/100 END 20cm Facets. We skied a mellow sheltered tree line back to the road for the above reasons.
