Quick report

We traveled to Sonora pass today Jan 4. We found wind blown snow in the upper elevations . Noticed wind loaded concave slopes above treeline. skies were clear. Temps were cold . with about 20 cm of new snow . There were brief periods of wind . Noticed the winds blowing snow off the ridges. As we rode around we tried several test slope to get feedback from the mountain and those test were nonreactive. We found the best riding around mid mountain below the treeline Did not observe any recent avalanche activity . Did not experience any other signs of instability . Persistent problem was not observed. new snow about 20cm . stayed cold .

Snowpack

dug a snow pit HS 170 cm. right side up . CTN did not perform an ECT boot pen 39cm. elevation 9294ft NE aspect . 28 deg slope.
