- <p>Visibility was poor, but we didn't see any recent avalanches, but the observations of avalanches from Sunday, including a fatality, raised big red flags for our group. We covered a lot of ground, going from Butler Fork to Baker Pass, up over the top of Gobblers, descending from the eastern summit of Gobblers into Butler Basin, then back up the ridge on the south side of Butler Basin so we could ski down into West Butler Fork. We experienced no cracking or collapsing, but whenever we were on the north side of the terrain, a pole penetration or hasty pit showed the buried facets near the ground. We went to significant lengths to avoid north facing terrain. All our skiing was on south facing slopes and some were quite steep, but there were no signs of instability on the south facing terrain.</p>
Snowpack
It seemed like about 2" of snow fell Sunday night on top of the Thursday-Saturday storm snow. The underlying storm snow is fairly dense and supportable with lower density snow on top, including the super low density snow that fell Sunday night. Its very fast and effortless powder skiing out there right now. The snow feels almost slippery, like you've got the perfect wax on your boards (and I know I don't).
