Quick Observation

Low snow in much of the South Rockies forecast region, but we wanted to get out for a walk anyways. At 2100 m there was only about 55 cm in the bowl we checked out. Not enough to cover rocks and obstacles; we were really glad we didn't have our sleds. There were a few isolated hard windslabs around, but most of the snowpack is very sugary (faceted)...and rocky!! We found the October and November crusts near the base of the snowpack surrounded by weak snow. It is not the best recipe for an early season snowpack by any means, but for now the hazard is relatively low, mostly due to lack of snow.
