Quick report

Developing a crust near the surface which was unsupportable and grabby. Snow underneath was very heavy and wet. Snowpilot plot in the photos. In a nutshell we had about 40-50cm of heavy wet (30% density) snow on top of a healing layer of buried surface hoar. The buried surface hoar has rounded significantly but it is still reactive (ECTP17 Q3). Basically the weak layer is still fragile and did propagate but didn’t “readily slide under its own weight”. I would guess that some cold temps overnight are going to ice up the top crust and the wet snow/rain in the forecast will make the skiing brutal but overall will hopefully continue to round out the snowpack. Rain runnels through the snowpack.
