We saw a widespread surface crust throughout the day in Kakwa. However, at Treeline we were able to find pockets of softer snow on north-facing slopes. In other locations, the snowpack was firm, with only 2 cm of snow on top of the crust in sheltered areas. Winds were moderate out of the south, but the hard crust limited any significant snow transport.
Given the low avalanche danger, we took the opportunity to ride some steeper terrain but stayed aware of any potential overhead hazards.
