Quick report
We toured from the lower trailhead up the ridge towards Gash Point. We stopped at about 8,000' where we dug a pit then transitioned and skied down the ridge, following the skin track to the road. We stayed in low-angle terrain all day. It was cold but sunny with some light wind on the ridge. There was some wind-loading on the ridge and a thin crust in the sun on more southern aspects. We noticed some small cracks right along the skin track, but no shooting cracks or collapse. We saw no recent avalanches in the low elevation, low angle terrain where we were touring. We dug our pit at 8,015' on an E aspect on the ridge. Total snow depth was 205cm. The top 70cm of the snowpack appeared right-side up, going from fist to 1 finger hardness top to bottom. We found a knife-hard crust at 70cm with softer (1 finger) snow below it. We performed an ECT with no fracture initiated (ECTX). The turns up higher on the ridge were great! We chose to take the road down between the top and bottom trailheads instead of dealing with thin cover in the gully, and it also had very thin coverage. Next time in similar conditions we'd drive to the upper trailhead.
