Quick report
We toured from the Mt. Rose highway up to the Galena west peak and skied down the North forested descent of Fireplug. We began our descent around 11 AM and found the snow to be moist and did not observe roller balls on north facing slopes at this point in the morning. We then began ascending around the west Galena peak up to the top of Tamarack peak and noticed small roller balls and pinwheels and were able to trigger on South / East facing test slopes roller balls reaching up to ~3/4 ft in size. Breakable crusts were fairly frequent in forested areas on our tour up to Tamarack peak as well. We reached the top of Tamarack peak towards 2 PM and found the snow to be generally skiable but difficult (generally true about everything we skied). We also found wind scoured snow and cornices at the ridges at the top of Tamarack and near Hourglass Bowl, with fairly small refrozen wind deposited snow on the south / south east facing ridges of Tamarack peak. We ended the day by descending down the east facing Proletariat Bowl and were able to trigger ~2/3ft sized roller balls / pinwheels on our descent after the slope had baked in the sun in the afternoon. It is worth noting that temperatures had dropped and clouds began to come in by the time we descended and we were still able to observe moderate signs of wet loose instabilities.
