Mt. Judah

Very little of the trace to one inch of snow that fell last weekend remains in the Mt. Judah area. We saw signs that it had blown away or melted into the older snow surfaces in most exposed places. Some of the more sheltered areas still had a thin layer of new snow on top of the old rough surfaces. The new snow was not enough to significantly change the snow conditions. Like many other places, this area held a mix of exposed crusts, firm wind-scoured surfaces, and uneven wind-carved features in exposed terrain. Sliding falls remained a real possibility on some of these firm surfaces. 

Areas of soft snow still lingered on shady slopes (northerly aspects) in below treeline terrain. This afternoon, a thin layer of soft, melt-freeze snow also formed on some lower-elevation sunny slopes (southerly aspects). However, numerous refrozen tracks interrupted almost every place we traveled, making travel more challenging.
