Quick report
Skied a South facing line off Jake’s today, looking for some melt-freeze snow. A strong inversion was present with an air temp of 27 at the car at 6800’ at 8:40 am. I was in the freezing fog layer until about 7100’, and a strong refreeze was present up until about 7700’ producing a very supportable 3 cm thick crust, making travel very easy. Once above the clouds, temperatures rapidly warmed, and the sun was strong. There was a weaker radiation refreeze present at the higher elevations, but ski pen was still less than 10 cm, and travel was quite supportable. I descended around 10:20, and found 8-12 cm of sun softened snow, which was slightly sticky, but still supportable and enjoyable. Some rollerballs came off my turns, but these did not entrain much snow or move very far. Down on the apron, where the refreeze had been stronger, only about 5 cm of moist snow was present, making for very fun turns, albeit thin coverage. Once I reached the freezing fog again, the surface was still frozen, and my car registered 32 F when I reached it.
