Quick report
Consistent snow started ~4800’ on solar and 4200’ on shaded slopes. Everything seemed to get a decent refreeze Saturday night. Solar aspects up in Bean Basin had transitioned to a more springy, post-shed-cycle snowpack. Really lovely corn skiing and most steep rocky zones clear of snow. We only observed more northerly aspects from afar, but they still seemed to have a mid-spring-shed look about them. Fresh roller balls, chunky avalanche debris, sagging snow barely clinging to steep, rocky surfaces, and some wind texture observed - maybe breakable crust ski conditions? Some other skiers we talked to seemed unimpressed with the ski quality on a NE(?) slope they skied. Large, sagging cornices abound. On the ridges we visited today we could visibly see subtle cracks in the snow surface where cornices were pulling away. Spooky!
Avalanche
Several recent D.5-1 size chunky wet loose slides on W-N-E aspects. One older shed-style debris pile on a SW aspect which looked like a possible glide avalanche off a rock slab above. Intentionally triggered a wet loose in a confined, E facing chute which propagated out of the chute and downslope about 150 ft.
