We experienced two prominent whoomphs today, one ascending at around 5600ft on a 25 degree NW aspect which remained localized but raised our alarm bells. The other occurred at 5000ft while descending in a mostly flat runout and was also localized, triggered by going off a small rock pillow. Despite these whoomphs we did not see any shooting cracks or experience much cohesive slab activity. Steep unsupported rollovers did have some reactivity. Light snow fell throughout the day from 4200ft up to 6800ft. On our exit back to Silver Star this did transition briefly to freezing rain at 5:30pm, but was very light. Snow quality was very high with no significant avalanche concern and no major instability noted skiing 25-30 degree glades.
Avalanche
Saw signs of small D1 sluff avalanches in steep rocky terrain. Noticed debris at the base of some steep couloirs but this appeared to be older and covered by the recent snow. Observed what appeared to be a deeper crown in the next open bowl over in steep open terrain, but deteriorating visibility did not allow us to investigate.
