Quick report
I spent the day ski touring above Upper Twin Lake, at the top of lost horse. Notable things: I dug a pit at 7300 on a 38° E facing slope early in the day. Total snow depth was 275 cm, with 43cm from this weekends storm. This amount of new snow seemed about average for the area. It seemed like the storm must have came in warm, as the snow was well bonded to the crust on top of the January snow, and was progressively harder as it went down. I did an extended column test, and got an ECTN13 at 26cm. I dug down 120cm, and below that there was a harder crust. I saw an avalanche on a S facing slope running into the top of E fork Moose Creek. It was hard to tell when exactly this slid, but im guessing it may have been at the start of the storm. The area it started in a smooth rock face, and there was a glide crack visible above the crown. (photo attached) I saw several natural loose slides starting from rocks in steep(approximately 45°) on an E facing slope. These happened sometime before 11 am. By the end of the day I was skiing quite steep terrain, and while there were many sluffs, it was only the upper half of the new snow moving, and even cutting 40 degree convex rolls i could not get any more than that to move.
