Quick Observation
A good walk on skis, looking for sharks in the Pocaterra area. There are many. Average snow depth is 40cm, but not overly supportive. Creeks and drainages are poorly covered with water still running. Lots of rocks and roots sticking out on the summer trail.
Avalanche Information
A number of size 0.5-1.5 avalanches were noted on north facing aspects in shallow rocky alpine and treeline areas.
Weather
Snowpack
The Nov 10 melt freeze crust (1cm knife hard, down 20-30) is present at and below tree line on all aspects with 4 Finger to Fist hard snow sitting on top. Below the crust is fist hard 2mm facets. The crust is reactive, breaking easily with short shooting cracks along with hollowness and whomping on low angle slopes. We avoided steeper slopes. Overall snow depth varied based on wind scouring or deposition. Solar warming was evident on south facing slopes.
