Quick Observation

Attempted Mt Cathedral yesterday (Sunday). We turned around due to limited visibility and slow travel due to trail breaking (15-20cm ski pen). Weather was partly cloudy in the morning but the clouds thickened and it was snowing steadily with dense fog above 2700m. Winds mostly calm. Skied the north couloir exit down to the highway. Had to cross Cataract Brook since it was wide open. The refreeze was poor below 1900m but steadily improved above that. Lots of snow still on the Lake O’Hara road, no bare spots even. No signs of instability in the alpine, other than some sloughing on steep terrain. We triggered a couple of very small isothermal slides down near the highway and these were a good reminder to be in the lookout for those.
