Quick Observation

A windy day up sledding around in the Ruby, Cracker creek cone area today and found good consistent riding. 10-15cm of recent snow is still soft and makes for good travel and fun playing in valley bottoms and high marking. Snow depth was about 140cm on south facing terrain and about 200cm on north facing terrain. Since we haven't been here yet this season we dug some pits and probed around. We had a column test fail on north facing terrain 30cm below the surface, that was moderate and sudden. We started in small terrain and worked our way up to gaining ridge lines around 2000m by using low angle terrain and avoiding wind loaded slopes. We saw many large and intimidating cornices that we gave a wide berth!
