This morning (20231207) in Mill Hollow, wet snow, periods of heavy snowfall, and obscured skies were present until 11am, when a break in the action left lower wind speeds, minimal precipitation , and occasional pockets of sun. A fresh system rolled in around 1pm, with increasing winds and snowfall rates.
Throughout travels, several rolling thunder-like propagating collapses could be heard underfoot, and across connected terrain. Some seemed to last the better part of a second.
Throughout the day, two ECT's around 9700 on E and NE failed on isolation (ECTPV), and one failed at three taps from the wrist (ECTP3).
A snowpit dug on a due north slope in an area of relative shelter failed at ECTP16 (pictured) and is also the source of the included snowpilot profile (attached). Intact buried surface hoar was the most notable find in this pit, with the expected poor structure present lower down.
Cold turns could still be found on shady, wind protected slopes.
