Quick Observation

Dec 21 MIN Rode hard today in the Bullmoose. Snow was excellent, blower over the handelbars ALL DAY! We broke trail in past the bus to the first bowl/Holzworth, and dug a pit in the trees on the SE side. Total height of snow was 130 cm at the pit, and we found a relatively stable snowpack. The recent storm cycles are rounding and as a result is increasingly consolidated the deeper you descend into the snowpack. The late November rain crust is located a meter down and contains facets above and below but did not provide results on compression and extended column tests. We did find compression test results in the upper snowpack on recent storm snow layers in the easy and moderate range, but absolutely no propagation at all in the Extended Column tests (ECTX) We rode hard all day at treeline in open moderate and somewhat steep slopes, and found no signs of instability (ie- shooting cracks or whumpfing), and no recent avalanche activity observed. The snowpack looks “Right Side Up” at the moment, and I expect the storm layers to continue to bond and settle over the next few days. Get out there!
