Quick Observation
Perfect day at Healy Pass. 20-30cm of faceting powder on top of a supportive crust. Travel BTL was fine, if slow on the way out. No wind slabs observed, wind affected snow was seen in the high alpine but didn't go there. Dug a quick pit on a NE slope and observed a 1cm thick crust and essentially only facets above and below it. Did an extended column test which had no results, even when I took the crust off. The column test had a couple breaks below the crust. I also whacked it with my shovel a bit after the proper test was done and it eventually did a sudden planar break on the basal facets about 90 down. No instabilities, natural or skier avalanches observed.
