Significant snowfall and wind at burstall overnight and this morning, tapering around 12:00. Conditions were extremely touchy, shooting cracks at basically any slope angle.
Witnessed windslab failure on ridgeline.
Did a quick pit because there was too much snow to ski anything.
Results at wind loaded area on E aspect just below the pass:
- 155cm HS
- 45cm height of storm snow (15cm yesterday, 30cm today)
- CTE 45 cm planar at interface with surface hoar. CTM 80 cm sudden collapse.
- ECTX, not much storm slab cohesion, but would expect that to change.
