Shames

lucasmatt, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Extensive cycle during the last storm on all aspects and elevations in the Shames backcountry to size 2. One crown looked at close went during the tail end of the storm and ran on the 170221 crust. Crown was 40-50cm in depth and size 1.5. Numerous whumpfs skinning across the bench below the dome however on small steep rolls could not get any movement. Sun was out and the solar aspect snow was getting wet on the surface. Winds were light. Ski pen at treeling was 30-40cm and looked like much less higher up in elevation and on lee slopes. High winds on the dome during the storm exposed the crust making for variable skiing. Skiing treeline and below was exceptional!
