<p>Day started cold at vehicles with a notable inversion and pleasant sunshine.
On Fraser ridge above Bryant Lake, below and at treeline we observed significant variability in snow surface. Avoided hard surfaces, but found very patchy snow ranging from hard (0 ski pen) to boot top wind affected snow, could change multiple times in a 10 m stretch of skin track. Any loose snow broke away from hard layer underneath. Difficult for second skier in skin track, once surface snow slipped away, under layer was very slick. Hard layer under soft snow 10-20 cm, faceted snow underlying, often with lot other layers noted with probing.
Above treeline was extremely scoured, less snow than same route on Jan 4th. Snow that was left was icy surface, hard crust with facets underneath. Snow depth 0-20 cm above 1500m.
Observed NNW aspect of Fraser Peak looked pillowy and loaded. On morning drive to the summit observed ramp (narrow point) on the access to Feather Peak north bowl looking similarly loaded up.
Best snow of the day down low, have fun where you can find it.
