Mt Westerly Winds

North Rockies

It was a warm windy day at Mount West. Treeline temperatures got to 0°C and the top layer of snow was moist by mid day. The winds were blowing snow around at high elevations and on ridge crest but the snow remained fairly soft among the meadows and trees. We did not see any new avalanches but the persistent weak layers were down under 100-140 cm of dense storm snow and reactive in our tests (ECTP18 dn 100 Feb20 SH over FC, DT21 SC dn 140 Feb20 SH over FC for the keeners! ). We stuck to simple, low angle terrain and small slopes and had a fun day in the mountains.
