Skied shelted north and east facing glades along Skyline 1 trail in Manning Park from strawberry flats. A few inches of fresh on a hard crust from down low up to about 1500m. Substantially more storm snow (40cm) in open and gladed areas at treeline. Light to moderate snow fell the entire day into the evening. Upper 20cm most recent snow was very reactive during testing (ECT2) and skiing, but did not show signs of propagation. A few skier triggered sluffs were easily set off in the top 20cm with hard turns in open and unsupported slopes.
2-3 small sz 0.5 loose dry 'sluffs' were immediately triggered by snowboarder/ skier upon skiing onto steep(35° to 40°) E and NE gladed slopes near 1800m. No propagation was observed but the upper 20cm of snow was sliding very easily, triggered by ski / board turns. Riders were able to ride away from the moving snow in all instances.
Cloudy day with light flurries and moderate snowfall at times. Winds generally light with moderate gusts from the South. Snowfall continued to accululate on the drive home; snow stopped accumulating on the road just below Hope Slide.
Snow depth at 1400m was about 115cm with 5-10cm fresh snow on hard crust. Dug test put at 1800m in east facing sheltered open glade (at pin location). 37° slope angle. HS 230cm: 230 to 195, soft storm snow, Fist density 195 to 181, 4F snow 180, crust 1F 179 to 161, 4F 160, crust 1F 159 to 100, 1F snow Did not dig into lower 1 meter of snowpack. Tests: ECTE2 down 20cm uneven break directly under shovel, no propagation. Continued tapping... ECTM17 down 50cm uneven break, no propagation. Shovel shear test caused upper 20cm to fail easily.
