Skied into Five Mile Basin today. Very touchy conditions but great (deep) skiing. Lots of settlements, 2-size 1 avalanches and way more snow than indicated on WW snow report. Probably closer to 30cms and warm temperatures in the morning caused some cohesive slabs to form and become reactive. Planned safe travel routes and mostly skied in the denser trees but overall good day. Much spicier conditions than anticipated (def not low hazard)
Ski cut near ridge top heading into acidophilus produced a size (1)? That ran 125m down slope, about 50m wide and 40-45cm deep, propagated well into other thin trees/rocky slopes and ran much further than originally thought. Another remote trigger when skinning up a 30 degree slope (in the trees) instilled very low confidence in the snowpack. We sought after lower angle slopes in very low consequence terrain (that still made for great skiing) Any more snow would leave me with no doubt that things will get very interesting...
Snowpack varied from 135cm to 165cm at treeline. A very hollow feel with denser snow sitting on top of sugary (facets and surface hoar) on anything North/North East. Lots of whumpfing and generally low confidence in snow conditions.
