Quick Observation

hoar layer at about 30cm depth in sheltered alpine on S/ Sw. 130cm snowpack At treeline the same layer exists in the open, with a layer of facets another 5 cm below. Both layers are thick enough to slide fingers into. Shooting cracks observed setting track above 1800m

Avalanche Information

30cm storm snow, ran on last week's hoar layer which looks to be 30-40cm down and 20-25mm in depth. Cornice was 50-80 cm depth. Trigger was well back from edge of slope. Ridgetop is around 2200m Reports from another party of a natural slide further along same slope. Same party had a skier burial, when setting skin track up a steep sided creek basin in the morning.
