We climbed the ridge part way up East Peak to check out Smokers Bowl. Dug a pit, observed a crust layer about 50cn down that snow pack slid on after moderate impact. Snow in Smokers looked firm, no soft powder. A skier climbing up the bowl was leaving very shallow tracks. Skied down the ridge into the trees, found much better powder there.
Dug one test pit, tested two columns. First failed on 3rd shoulder level tap, second failed on 5th elbow level tap. Both slid on 1cm ice crust, probably from freezing rain event earlier in December.
