Awesome morning on Mt Smuts yesterday (April 14th). Summited around 8:30. Waited for the sun to soften the snow and dropped in at 9:45. Weather was clear, calm winds at the bottom but light winds on top. Ski quality was poor up top; breakable 3cm suncrust. Lower down below 2600m the crust was softer and skied better. Lower down on the less steep fan, the snow surface was still firm and hadn’t really softened. No pinwheeling or wet sluffs while we were on the face. Bootpacking up was fairly strenuous due to the breakable sun crust in most places.
