Tree line and above very wind affected. Also alpine areas with thin snowpack. Alpine area felt sketchy with multiple wind slabs and cornice development. We did make it to the top of the ridge. Due to the sketchy wind slabs we had to cross, we decided to stick to our skin trails on the way down. Below tree line the runs were pretty skied out, but still some areas in between with deep powder snow. We observed an avalanche from afar, below Crowfoot glacier (east side). We saw 1 other group in this area, they also decided to turn around and stick to skin trail.
We observed a size 3 avalanche NE from Crowfoot glacier starting in the alpine zone spreading into tree line. We observed this from Crystal Ridge around 12.30pm 5 Dec.
