Today we rode at the Microwave. Temps were very cold this morning, with a brisk -20 at the truck.
There was up to 20 cm of snow overnight, with almost no wind effect, which made for excellent riding conditions. This new snow was overlying a wind-blown surface from last week's strong winds.
We dug a snow pit on an east aspect at 1600 m and found 190 cm of snow. In an extended column test, we were able to produce non-propagating results within the new storm snow.
In a compression test, we were able to get hard, sudden planar results on the Nov SH layer. This layer was 110 cm below the surface of the snow here, and the crystals were well preserved, size 4-7 mm.
The wind was calm throughout the day, and we observed no new avalanches.
