We had a stormy riding day, and spent most of our time in the open meadows near the cabin. Check out the snowpack tab for our snow profile information. The new snow and storm snow is sitting on a recently buried layer of surface hoar that may be reactive after a few more days of snow and wind. The mid-pack is strong, but the basement is weak!
The storm snow was failing with light forces applied on a recently buried layer of surface hoar. Deeper in the snow pack, we had a moderate sudden planar result below a knife hard crust on a layer of facets size 2.0-3.0. The bottom 70 cm of snow was unconsolidated one finger depth hoar.
