Quick Observation

A size 1 dry loose avalanche was observed near our descent line on Mushroom People. It originated in extreme terrain and entrained the HST which is able to travel far and fast on the firm wind affect below. Otherwise no new avalanches observed. Consistent flurries throughout the day in the Asulkan drainage (sounds like a different story in Connaught). Light winds with no obvious wind transport occurring throughout the day. Poor viz resulted in a change of plans. Ski quality is on the mend, with 10-15cm low density HST on top of firm breakable wind affect. With another 10cm the ski quality will be excellent!

Snowpack

Another 5cm's of recent HN adds to the previous 5cm's of HST overlying a variety of old surfaces in the alpine, varying from hard windslabs to 5cm breakable windcrust. In sheltered areas below treeline the recent HST is sitting on on 30cm's of low density faceted HST. A test profile at 2050m on an E facing roll above TL showed similar results to yesterdays profile below Bruins. Shears down 50cm and 70cm's (Late Jan Interface) producing hard or no results in CT's, but pulling out resistant planar with moderate pressure on a shovel shear.
