Nice but cold day at Burstall Pass. Travel was excellent with supportive snow. At pass elevation surface hoar is developing, which skied nicely but could be an issue when buried. Whole area was untracked when we got there and we had some excellent powder turns (maybe 20-30 cm pow on a firm but well bonded crust). On the descent we avoided the gully exit option, thinking there wasn’t enough snow, and instead skied down the hiking trail, which was a bit tricky with some downed trees and thin coverage. It’s a long approach and full trip took us 5.5 h so plan accordingly on these short winter days.
